Hampsons focus is on the representation of liability insurers and the defence of their insureds in litigation, and they are the only firm in the Cayman Islands to offer this specialised expertise.
Because of Hampsons close ties to the insurance industry, Hampsons representation of most major insurers, and Hampsons defence of medical professionals, Hampsons does not take on or provide representation in plaintiffs’ personal injury or plaintiffs’ medical negligence matters.
Partner, Paul Keeble, has nearly 40 years’ experience in the insurance defence field representing and advising insurers, in the defence of their policy holders. He takes a particular interest in claims involving mechanical or engineering aspects, and has considerable experience in accident reconstruction.
Paul has been involved in most of the leading local cases of relevance to liability insurers and has led in the use of particular provisions contained in the Vehicle Insurance (Third Party Risks) Act; the decision in Andrade v. Frederick being one of the most significant among these.
Hampsons works closely with David Merriott, FCII of West Indies Chartered Loss Adjusters, in advising insurers, their brokers and agents, and representing their policy holders in a broad range of insurance related claims including motor vehicle insurance, employer liability, and public liability policy based claims.
Typical Hampsons insurer clients include Saxon Motor & General Insurance Company Ltd, Cayman First Insurance Company Limited, British Caymanian Insurance Agencies Limited, Guardian General Insurance Limited, RoyalStar Assurance Ltd, and Caribbean Alliance Insurance Co. Ltd.
As well as representation in the defence of first party and third party claims, Paul is available to advise on all matters pertaining to the insurance industry, including the drafting and interpretation of insurance policies and advising on issues arising under the relevant legislation, including the Vehicle Insurance (Third Party Risks) Act.
